Frequently Asked Questions

What does OEM stand for and what is the difference between compatible and remanufactured cartridges?
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. These manufacturers produce replacement cartridges for their own printers and will carry their names on such products, such as Epson, Canon, Lexmark, HP.
Remanufactured Cartridges are cartridges, which have been professionally recycled, cleaned, tested and packaged to ensure they meet or exceed OEM standards.
Compatible Cartridges are manufactured by a third party and designed to meet or exceed OEM specifications. The cartridges are 100% totally brand new and are an economical alternative to OEM cartridges. Compatible ones are pretty much the same and function very well. So why pay more money for OEMs? Compatible cartridges are also refillable afterwards, just like OEMs.

My printer will not print after I installed a new cartridge; what can I do?
There are three steps you could solve this problem:
a) Re-install the cartridge, making sure all contact points are firmly touching if microprocessors are present.
b) Make sure all labels are removed as per instructions on the cartridges.
c) Have the print head replaced or repaired. Print heads do wear out and will need replacement eventually.

Will using Compatible or Remanufactured Cartridges void the warranty of my printers?
The answer is NO. According to the "MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY ACT": “(c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection be waived by the commission if:
1) The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.”
Do not let any company or technicians tell you would void the warranty if you use an aftermarket cartridge!

When I print, there are faint white lines.
Run the print head cleaning procedure according to the instructions of the printer manufacturer. Most of the newer printers have software utilities which you could activate the cleaning cycle. Sometimes multiple cleaning is required.

How long is the shelf life of the inks?
Our premium quality inks will last longer than your printer as long as you follow three simple steps: keep the caps on the bottles tightly closed, keep bottles out of direct sunlight and keep bottles at room temperature.

Is your ink available in bulk quantities?
Yes it is. Any ink you require is available in bulk quantities ranging from 2 oz bottles to 1 gallon containers or larger. Please call us to discuss customizing your bulk ink needs.

One of my coloured inks runs out before the others, how can I stop wasting the other inks?
You may have noticed that one of the colours, in a three colour cartridge, usually runs out before the others. The great thing about refilling your own cartridges is that you no longer have to waste the other inks. Simply refill the empty colour chamber and top up the other colours if necessary.

How should I handle my cartridge?
Never touch the electronic print head with any abrasive material. Use care when setting your cartridges down and do not place the print head in contact with any surface besides the printer.

How can I get dried ink out of my print head so I can print again?
Place the clogged cartridge in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of warm water for a few minutes. When ink starts to slowly leak out take the cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth to "Q-tip." Then place it back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software. You may have to run this 2-4 times before printing quality is reestablished. If your print head is destroyed, as can happen, you will have to buy a cartridges and refill that cartridge before it is fully empty.

What do you mean by priming the cartridge?
Priming the cartridge is another process that allows the print head to open up for the ink to come through. What you do is get a damp paper towel, press and hold on the print head (copper strip facing down) for around 20-30 seconds. This will bring the ink to the surface of the print head.

Is there a down side I will notice when using remanufactured toner cartridges?
Absolutely not! The only difference you will notice is the amount of money you will save and knowing you are helping preserve the environment.

   What about ink quality?
Ink quality is the most important part of refilling. The print head on your cartridge may get clogged or destroyed by the inks that can not match the OEM's specifications. Universal inks are formulated and tested under strict laboratory conditions to ensure the highest output quality at all times as compared with other OEM products.

Why should I use recycled inkjet cartridges?
The first and foremost answer is cost. By recycling your inkjet cartridges, you can save from 30 to 50 percent or more. Another good reason to use recycled cartridges is that it is good for the environment.

How many times can we refill the original cartridge?
You should be able to refill your original cartridge approximately 5-8 times depending on how well you maintain the cartridge.

After refilling, why does the cartridge indicator still show that it is not full?
HP #40 and HP #45 cartridges use a green indicator on the side to indicate how much ink is left. This green indicator moves out of view when the cartridge is empty and may not reappear after refilling. This is due to the way that the indicator is made. However, you can tell that the cartridge is full by its weight. After refilling, the cartridge will be noticeably heavier than when it was empty.

What is the difference between standard dye-based ink and pigmented ink?

Dye-base ink less water-resistant less fade-resistant Pigmented ink more water-resistant more fade-resistant

Why should I refill my inkjet cartridge?
Refilling means recycling your inkjet cartridge. Through refilling you can take advantage of the extended life of the print head.
Refilling your cartridges is good for the environment and lets you enjoy tremendous savings on your total cartridge expenditure.
There are also substantial absolute savings as opposed to buying a new original cartridge.
